Wybory odbędą się w marcu przyszłego roku w Rabacie. 55-latek w październiku wyjawił, że planuje stawić czoło swojemu rodakowi i teraz już wiadomo, że za słowami pójdą czyny.

Football belongs to its people. Their passion deserves respect, their voices deserve to be heard, and their contributions deserve recognition — never humiliation, intimidation or contempt.
After more than a decade of preparation, I formally announce my candidacy for the Presidency of FIFA in 2027.
Alongside me stands my Hungarian wife and First Lady, Claudia — a pioneer with over 25 years of experience in professional men s football. Together, we share an unwavering commitment to restoring trust, reforming governance and reuniting the global football family.
I bring the mentality of a player, the discipline of a defender and decades of experience from the pitch to the boardroom.
I defended my team on the field. Now I am ready to defend football itself — its integrity, its people and its future.
My candidacy is not driven by personal ambition, power or privilege. It is driven by responsibility, conviction and a profound love for the game that has given me everything.

– Po ponad dekadzie przygotowań oficjalnie ogłaszam swoją kandydaturę na Prezydenta FIFA w 2027 roku (…) Przynoszę mentalność zawodnika, dyscyplinę obrońcy i dekady doświadczenia z boiska do sali konferencyjnej. Broniłem swojej drużyny na boisku. Teraz jestem gotowy bronić samej piłki nożnej – jej uczciwości, jej ludzi i jej przyszłości.
– Moja kandydatura nie jest napędzana osobistą ambicją, siłą czy przywilejami. Chodzi o odpowiedzialność, przekonanie i głęboką miłość do gry, która dała mi wszystko.
Kto przeciwnikiem duetu Szwajcarów?
W drugiej połowie października mówiło się o tym, ze UEFA chce znaleźć kandydata cieszącego się międzynarodowym uznaniem i posiadającego doświadczenie w zarządzaniu. Padło nazwisko Davida Beckhama. Nie wiadomo jednak, czy Anglik będzie się ubiegać o fotel prezydenta FIFA. Pewnym jest, że ponad dekadę temu Beckham głośno sprzeciwiał się temu, co działo się w światowej federacji. Skandale korupcyjne nazywał obrzydliwymi.

Jeśli chodzi o azjatyckich działaczy, bardzo możliwe, że kontrkandydatem Infantino oraz Vegi będzie Kozo Tajima. To honorowy prezydent Japońskiej Federacji Piłkarskiej. Jest on zdania, że jako Japończyk byłby w stanie zadbać o uczciwość, solidność i integralność.
